Prognostic tool
LUMPO
The Liverpool Uveal Melanoma Prognosticator Online: a validated tool that estimates an individual patient's risk of metastasis after treatment for uveal melanoma.
LUMPO brings together the clinical, pathological and genetic features of an individual uveal melanoma to estimate that patient's risk of metastatic disease over time. It is used by ocular oncology centres worldwide to inform surveillance and to guide entry into clinical trials.
What LUMPO does
Uveal melanoma is the most common primary eye cancer in adults, and its outlook varies widely from one person to the next. By combining factors such as patient age and sex, tumour size and location, cell type, and molecular markers including chromosome 3 and BAP1 status, LUMPO produces an individualised survival estimate rather than a single population average.
The result helps clinical teams tailor how closely a patient is monitored after treatment, and supports informed conversations about prognosis. It draws on more than two decades of research and outcome data from the group and its collaborators.
Who it is for
LUMPO is a decision-support tool intended for clinicians and researchers. Its estimates should always be interpreted by a qualified professional in the context of the full clinical picture, and are not a substitute for individual medical advice.
How it works
The tool is developed and hosted by the University of Liverpool, with the underlying statistical model maintained by the group's mathematical and statistical modelling team. It has been externally validated across multiple international centres, and continues to be refined as new evidence emerges.
