Ocular Oncology Biobank
A curated collection of ocular tumour samples that makes translational eye cancer research possible.
The Ocular Oncology Biobank (OOB), established by Dr Helen Kalirai, is a carefully curated collection of ocular tumour samples and associated clinical data. Because eye cancers are rare, high-quality, well-annotated tissue is precious, and the biobank is one of the group’s most valuable research resources.
Why it matters
Access to consented, well-characterised samples allows researchers to study the biology of ocular tumours, validate new prognostic markers and test potential treatments. The biobank underpins much of the group’s translational research and its collaborations with partners in the UK and internationally.
Governance and consent
Samples are collected and stored with appropriate patient consent and under the relevant ethical and regulatory frameworks. This ensures that patients’ contributions are used responsibly and that research is conducted to the highest standards.
